Tell us about yourself.

My full name is Farrah Adkins, and I live in South Carolina with my husband, Steve, my two teenage children, Landon and Layna, and our dog, Lucy. My husband is my best friend, and we have been married for twenty-four years. I left work almost nineteen years ago to be a full-time wife and mother, and I treasure every moment that I have with my family. With my children being older, I decided to start writing in my spare time. I have always dreamed of being an author, so a couple of years ago, I began my first Christian fiction novel. Occasionally, I also do some Christian freelance writing. One of my articles was published in Focus on the Family magazine last year, and I have another scheduled to be published in their magazine later this year. In addition, I have a faith blog on my website where I post weekly. My posts usually consist of my Bible study where I share some humorous event that has happened that week or a fictional story that ties with the lesson I have learned from scripture. Writing my blog post each week has been such a blessing because it has led me to take a whole new approach in studying God’s word, and with this new approach, I have learned so much.

What is the name of your new novel, and how did you come up with the idea for your book?

The name of my debut novel is Truth in the Name. The idea for this book came to me one morning during my workout, which seems to be my method of brainstorming. Strangely enough, most of my writing ideas usually pop into my head while I am exercising, so I keep a composition book by the treadmill in case I need to jot down notes.

What is the book about?

Truth in the Name is a futuristic story of a young woman facing an evil force determined to erase all knowledge of God from the world. However, that evil force learns that no one can take Jesus from the heart of a true believer.

The main character, Ellie, is haunted by guilt. Two years earlier, her sister disappeared the same day Ellie forgot about their lunch plans. So now, Ellie’s life has become consumed with finding her sister. One day she gets a letter from the president of the United States stating that he has chosen her to be a member of his special crime division.  Ellie must go through intense training for her new position. However, after she arrives at the facility, she soon discovers that this special honor is not quite what it seems. As she searches for the truth, she enters a race against time to save the world and the man she loves from the president’s hunger for power.

Do you have any unusual writing habits or foods you must have when writing?

Absolutely. As I said before, most of my ideas are generated during my early morning workout. But when I sit down to write, I first drink a cup of coffee… dark roast, of course, and then it is essential that I have trail mix… and it has to be the Tex Mex flavor from Walmart.

What authors, or books have influenced you?

First of all, I would have to say Frank Peretti. His books were my first introduction to the Christian Fiction genre, and I was hooked. I began with This Present Darkness and went on to read all of his books including the Cooper Kids Adventure Series that I had purchased for my children. My bookshelf is filled with so many Christian Fiction authors that my list could go on and on, but one in particular that I suppose I have read the most is Lynette Eason. As I began reading her books, I discovered that she lives in the same area that I do, and most of her books are set in South Carolina. A little over a year ago, I was blessed to be able to attend a weekend writing conference that she was hosting, so I was able to learn from her firsthand. I have always loved reading, but it is amazing to sit down and escape into a book that you know is not going to contain anything that goes against God’s word.

What other books are you working on now?

Currently, I am working on the sequel to Truth in the Name. My hope is for this to be a trilogy.

What are you reading now?

Between writing a novel, posting to my blog, and keeping up with two teenage children, I don’t have a lot of time left over to read. However, I begin each day by reading my Bible, and I often read articles while doing research for my blog and my novel. I do have one of Lynette Eason’s latest books on my shelf that I hope to have time to read soon.

If you were going to be headed to Mars and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you, what books would you bring?

Of course, my first choice would be my Bible because I need God’s Word to comfort and guide me every day. Then, I would take This Present Darkness, by Frank Peretti, Always Watching, by Lynette Eason, and The Listener, by Terry Blackstock.
