John Duckworth
John Duckworth is a novelist, editor, playwright, scriptwriter, cartoonist, and father of twins. After earning his bachelor’s degree at Linfield College, he spent 35 years in the publishing industry as a curmudgeonly editor, product developer, and author, working with people like Ken Blanchard, Dr. Kevin Leman, Richard Foster, and Calvin Miller, producers like VeggieTales, organizations like Focus on the Family and companies like Random House, Thomas Nelson, NavPress, Group Publishing, Zondervan and Rainfall Toys.
His works include Joan ’n’ the Whale, Just for a Moment I Saw the Light, four collections of short plays, a ton of curriculum, at least 90 articles and short stories and three videos about a giant chipmunk puppet. He also contributed chapters to several trade books, edited scores of nonfiction and fiction titles, wrote animation and live action scripts for a major video series, several ounces of online content, and co-directed a traveling drama troupe called the Jericho Roadshow. On the radio he’s done voice-over work for the popular Adventures in Odyssey program and wrote, directed, and performed in The Semi-Amusing Half-Hour Comedy Show.
After producing nearly 250 issues of weekly publications Power for Living and FreeWay, he created seven multi-volume series of youth ministry resources. He’s edited or rewritten hundreds of books, articles, and lesson plans.
John’s hobbies include figuring out how to promote himself while pretending to be humble, reading stories to children in the hospital, holding tiny babies in the neonatal intensive care unit, and feeding the cat. He and his lovely wife, Liz, live in Colorado Springs.
