L.L. Ward
Writing wasn’t in L.L.’s wheelhouse until stumbling upon it out of necessity – because she missed her brother. And she discovered something exciting: one can create a character for the sole purpose of hanging out with them. Sentences became paragraphs and paragraphs became three chapters.
Life took a dramatic turn, her words went on a shelf, and stayed there seventeen years. What appeared to be the final blow following years of setbacks and defeats became a curious turning point. One day out of desperation, L.L. Ward prayed, asking for help. ‘Get your book out. Finish it,’ is what she heard deep inside her. ‘What book?!’ She suddenly remembered the words on the shelf.
During the next nine months, God used L.L.’s awkward attempts at stringing words together, allowing her to pour out all the anger, frustration, pain, and otherwise poisonous feelings into characters. Over 133,000 words later, it was finished. And it was bad. It was bad and way too big for one book.
L.L. discovered it to be the birthing of the first one and a half books of the All Roads Lead Home series. The title came from her mother seventeen years earlier, asking her mother what came to mind for a title after reading the first three chapters.
Three years and eight rewrites became Books One and Two, but the title has endured and will throughout the remaining books as we travel forward to present day in the ARLH Christian historical fiction/family saga/western series.
L.L. Ward has a deep love for her Savior, Jesus, and has a burning desire to share the interesting ways He heals the broken. The immeasurable joy derived from a close walk with Him cannot remain locked away. The most amusing aspect of God using L.L.’s love for storytelling is that He does indeed use imperfect vessels; as she was at best a C student in English growing up. Although, L.L. estimates she might be at a C+ these days.
L.L. Ward lives in Oklahoma with dogs, cats, turtles, squirrels and writes books. Sometimes people read those books. L.L.’s roommates are not impressed.
